Minister's Message

On Thursday September 11th, hundreds of thousands of people around the world will once again join with Unity in a sacred partnership of prayer for the 15th annual Unity World Day of Prayer. The theme this year is Celebrating Oneness, Healing the World. Our affirmation is: rejoicing in our oneness with God and one another, we celebrate healing in every aspect of our lives and in the world.

The Unity World Day of Prayer is open to people of all faiths.  Its purpose is to unite as many people as possible in prayer for one another knowing that our united prayers have great power to change us and transform our world. This year, the Unity World Day of Prayer will also serve as an opening event for 11 Days of Global Unity, commemorated annually by hundreds of organizations around the world.

At Unity Church for Creative Living we will be hosting healing gatherings, international potlucks, concerts, dances and interfaith celebrations to honor diversity as well as global unity for 11 hours on September 11th beginning at 11:00am and every day for 11 days. These events will culminate with a visit from the President and CEO of Unity, Dr. Charlotte Shelton on September 21st, when the United Nations and all people of good will have declared a day of ceasefire and an end to violence during the 27th Annual United Nations International Day of Peace. Wherever you are on September 21st please stop for a moment of Silence at Noon and pray: May Peace Prevail on Earth.

Our thoughts are prayers. Every thought we think does make a difference in the quality or our lives. Through the threads of consciousness we radiate out to the Living Earth, we co-create the kind of world we live in. Our thoughts affect every thing seen and unseen.  Over 3000 year ago the prophet Solomon said, “As a person thinketh in their heart so they are”.  It has taken humanity over three centuries to truly understand this wisdom. Thoughts are creative. In the Maitri Upanishad, we read: “one’s own thought is one’s world. What a person thinks is what he becomes—that is the eternal mystery. In the Dhamapada, the Buddha also teaches, “We are shaped by our thoughts. As we think so we become. When the mind is pure, joy follows, like a shadow that never leaves.”

Our Unity co-founder Myrtle Fillmore wrote, Show me the seeds you sow and the thoughts you think and I can foretell the manner of your harvest, for it is the same in the mind world as it is in our soil world.” We are learning that we are not limited by God’s will, heredity, DNA, the environment, politics, circumstances or fate but by our own consciousness. We are children of God waking up to the Living Good.   We are discovering that Hell is not a hot place but a hot-headed attitude and Heaven is a state of consciousness we can attain. It is a capacity to be achieved and maintained. Are you ready to be healed? Then begin praying at once and make a commitment to join us in United Prayer to celebrate healing in every aspect of our lives.  Together, we can make a difference in our own lives and in the world.

With Great Respect and Love,
Rev. Judith Elia
